Auchnagie was founded by James Duff had a varied existence and went through numerous stages of ownership before fall into the hands of John Dewar & Son who dismantled it in 1912. When Barnard visited, Auchnagie had an output of between 19,000 and 24,000 gallons and a warehousing capacity of 40,000 gallons. The water source was the nearby Auchnagie Hills, the barley was sourced very locally and the peat came from Loch Broom.
